2001-2014

2001
The Museo de Mataró organizes the exhibit 'Subirachs. Idea, Matter, Form", a retrospective exhibiting over one hundred works.
He signs an agreement with the Caixa Penedès Foundation whereby it undertakes to provide and finance a suitable building in which the works of the artist can be exhibited permanently.

2002
The sculpture Ionian. Tribute to Noucentisme is erected in the Gardens of the Vichy Catalán Spa in Caldes de Malavella.
Receives the Protagonistas 2002 art prize awarded by the radio program directed by Luis del Olmo on the Onda Cero radio station.

2003
The Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya organizes, in the Palau Moja in Barcelona, the retrospective exhibition entitled: 'Subirachs. Volumes, textures, symbols'.
Creates a sculptured monument for the Sculptures Park of the city of Gwangju, province of Gyeonggi (South Korea).
Seville's Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría awards him with the Honorary Medal for Sculpture.
At the end of the year, he returns to live in the workshop-house, a project by the architect Antoni de Moragas, on the carretera de l'Arrabassada in Barcelona.

2004
He begins a creative period dedicated mainly to painting.

2005
On May 4th the work Ascension is put in place, the last figure completing the group of sculptures on the Passion Façade of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.

2006
Publication of the book 'Subirachs a Catalunya. Obra en espais públics', published by Editorial Mediterrània.

2007
Coinciding with the eightieth anniversary of the birth of the artist, the Museu de Montserrat organizes the exhibition 'Subirachs in Montserrat'.
On April 18th the bronze figure of Saint George is unveiled in the bay of the Sagrada Família Temple in Barcelona.

2008
On July 13th a sculptured monument by Subirachs is unveiled in the Parc de Can Robert in Sitges (Barcelona).

2009
The bronze Padrenuestro gate, designed by Subirachs, is put in the Glory façade of the Sagrada Família Temple.

2010
The exhibition Subirachs. Analogies, dualities, oppositions is put on for one and a half months in La Lonja (Zaragoza); it is the largest retrospective display of the artist’s work ever to have been organised.

2011
The Plenary of the Barcelona Municipal Council granted the Gold Medal for Artistic Merit.

2014
After a few years away from the artistic practice due to a neurodegenerative disease, Josep Maria Subirachs, aged 87, passed away in Barcelona at 9.30pm on 7th April.
